What sin unot death is this? It would be the unpardonable sin. There can be no forgiveness for such a one, and therefore you should not pray or intercede for that one.

Matt 12:31
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Matt 12:32
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

How can one speak against the Holy Spirit? When the Holy Spirit gives you the Words when you are delivered up, and you don't speak them, that would be unpardonable. The sin would be committed with full knowledge. It would be an act of treason.


Mark 13:11
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Peter did not commit the unpardonable sin. He spoke as the Spirit gave him utterance in Acts chapter 2. Remember how the Holy Spirit came on him and the others waiting in the upper room.


Acts 2:1-4
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Spirit gave utterance and Peter spoke.

When Peter denied the Lord, the Lord told him he would:


Luke 22:31-34
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the ##*% shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

The Lord was telling Peter that satan was going to try his faith, or try to overthrow his faith. In otherwords Peter's faith was going to get a big shake up.

Imagine faithful Peter walking with the Lord. He was no coward, yet a short time after the Lord said these words to Peter, Peter denied him.

Peter was the one that took off the ear of the servant of the high priest. Peter is also the one that didn't want our Savior to die, not really understanding why Yeshua came in the first place.


Matt 16:21-23
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Sadly, Peter was very human with human passions. He wanted to protect our Lord because he loved him. Peter still wasn't looking at the spiritual. He still wasn't understanding the bigger picture. Peter is an example to us of our failings in the flesh and our strengths in the Spirit.

Peter's faith got a real shaking up when Jesus was arrested. Yet Peter did not desert our Lord but followed along behind to see what would happen.


Luke 22:52-62
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the ##*% crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the ##*% crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Peter's faith was also shook really bad when He denied the Lord. How awful if Peter had sunk into dispair and turned away forever.

I believe with all my heart that Peter had good intentions. He wanted to see what was happening to his Lord and he was trying to protect himself in the process. When Peter realized that he had denied the Lord he was very ashamed. He remembered that our Lord told him what would happen. Our Lord had already forgiven him. Our Lord in His love and wisdom told Peter that when he came to himself again he was to help strengthen the brethren. He gave Peter a task that he could do. What Love from Christ to Peter.

It was Peter who spoke the recorded words in Acts chapter 2. What a maturing process Peter had gone through.

Peter's denials of the Lord was a fleshly act but it was not unforgivable.


When the Lord asked Peter if he loved Him, it was after our Lord had risen from the dead and appeared to the disciples.
