BE ABOVE (SUPREME)
PM July 2008
My notes only
5242 huperecho (hoop-er-ekh'-o);
from 5228 and 2192; to hold oneself above, i.e. (figuratively) to excel; participle (as adjective, or neuter as noun) superior, superiority:
KJV-- better, excellency, higher, pass, supreme.
The word is supposed to keep you from being anxious.
You hurt yourself when you worry. There is a lack of trust and love for the Father if you worry. He will take care of you.
This greek word is an interesting word "to be above". Huperecho, you are above and you are going to hang on to it. His Word gives us our authority and Right, humbly. We are to be a blessing to others to share what we have so they can grow also and be above the anxiety of this world.
God takes care of business. Will you follow him?
I Peter. Peter means rock.
1 Pet 5:1-14
1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Listen to me.
Paul was touched by Christ and led.
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Feed the flock. Don't force yourself on someone. Do not do it for money. Have a prepared mind. It is God's Word and it heals, protects and leads.
Many churches feed the flock other stuff but not God's Word. People are hungry for the truth.
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
Don't lord it over anyone. Set the example. If you have peace of mind that is the most valuable thing in the world. You are not lording it over anyone thinking you are better. A person like that is an imposter.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
If you feed the flock you will receive that crown. We are not talking church. We are to feed the flock in a humble way and when people see your peace of mind they will be drawn to you. They will seek you out. You are a good example and they can feel it. Feed them with a ready mind, a prepared mind, someone who has answers or knows how to get answers. There is no sin in not knowing but find out what the answer is, dig it out. You don't have to know everything to discuss the Father.
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
It is important that you not be proud. It is the opposite of hupaecho. Someone that is too good for people, trying to impress people with your great knowledge. God will pass you over. Don't play that act because it will get you no where. God is against it. That is what brought satan's downfall. Ezekiel 28.
5244 huperephanos-
1) showing oneself above others, overtopping, conspicuous above others, preeminent
2) with an overweening estimate of one's means or merits, despising others or even treating them with contempt, haughty
As you grow and learn the Word it is not right that you try to impress upon people how much you know. If you are a teacher you go to that person's level of thinking and gradually bring him up in level. It is not important how much you know. Be gentle. A fisherman is gentile and patient. God is against haughtiness. People resent it. Don't overload people's donkeys or you will lose them and bring harm.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
When it is time He will give you that crown.
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Cast all your worries on him. If you don't believe that you are an infidel. You have to trust Him. You have to know that. There is no half-way faith, you either have it or you don't. Either you believe He is your Father or you don't. Don't hang onto worries. Put them on Him.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Be sincere, be aware, study, think. Don't turn your back on satan. Just about the time you are celebrating satan is sawing the floor out from under you if you are not aware. Satan is after God's elect. Satan will be here as the false messiah and he wants to attract all he can with his beauty and haughtiness.
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Same thing happens to everybody.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
He will always do that. Father cares about you. He loves all His children. The Word needs to be shared with His children. God will bless your efforts when you share His Word.
1 Pet 2:1-25
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
Waste of time. No good. Can be very hurtful even to yourself. God is watching you.
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
The real true scripture without junk thrown on the side. The Word causes you to grow. Traditions of men rob you of the blessings of God.
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
God is good and always Right.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
Men crucified him. He is the chief cornerstone. When you believe upon Him you become a stone.
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Living stones, eternally living. The spiritual house is the true house of God. He was rejected and crucified. He is returning. Satan is returning in the 6th trump. We are to testify against him. Don't worry. God will take care of us.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
You are not going to be confused if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
Do you believe He is precious?
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
They stumble at the Word of God. If you don't study and go against God He tells you what will happen to you.
People teach Jesus saves and then you will fly away. That is false teaching. It sets people up to receive satan and then stumble when satan comes. If you want to believe a lie God will send strong delusion. Set aside the traditions of men. Let God speak through His Word.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
The generation that is here when antichrist appears.
One nation under God. In God we trust.
That light is truth.
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Our Father leads, guides, and directs and He uses His people.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Pilgrims-Why? Because we are those that lived with Him before we came to this earth. He is a living stone. You are a living stone, humbly. Turn away from fleshly lusts.
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
They will follow your example. You need to set that example.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
Supreme-this is political. In our case, Republic which guarantees our right to do what we are doing now to spread the seed, teach the seed, even all around the world. This nation is the only superpower that there is today. God called this nation out. It is not an accident.
God loves all His children, but this is our right to teach.
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
In otherwords law and order is a wonderful thing. It punishes those that would do evil and it guarantees our right.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
With well-doing, teaching properly you put to ignorance foolish men.
Phil 3:1-15
1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.
Seems like I am writing the same things over and over again. It won't hurt you.
2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
Concision=heathen cuttings or mutilations.
3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
This is true circumcision. It is of the heart and not the flesh. In repenting and believing in Him you are circumcised.
4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
Paul had credentials.
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
He was a zealous Pharisee.
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
According to Pharisee law I was doing good.
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
I had a zeal for that religion in the flesh but compared to Christ it was nothing.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Excellency=
5242 huperecho (hoop-er-ekh'-o);
from 5228 and 2192; to hold oneself above, i.e. (figuratively) to excel; participle (as adjective, or neuter as noun) superior, superiority:
KJV-- better, excellency, higher, pass, supreme.
Paul had a supreme advantage with the knowledge of Christ. Everything else is dung.
This supreme advantage puts you above the worries of the world. It is powerful. You do not have to be anxious.
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Absolutely.
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Deathliness or eternal life. You are a living stone as a believer. You receive that Word from Christ that sets you above. There are troubled waters but when you climb out and rise above it, it does not bother you. It will get worse before it gets better. Be prepared mentally and spiritually. You have been told it will happen. You don't have to worry. God will be with you.
God hates lazy people.
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
I am still in the flesh but I am captured by Christ.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Don't look back. You are forgiven if you repented. Go forward. Go after the mark. Overcome.
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
(KJV)
Mature in the Word.
If there is something you don't agree with me about don't worry about. God will reveal who is right. You stick to how you interpret God's Word until He shows you a more correct way. Sail your ship.
Phil 3:16-21
16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
Live up to it, don't just talk about it. Do it.
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
There were people that tried to take them back to the old law.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
They call themselves Christians but they are not. You have to beware. Many come in His name but He did not send them. You can tell by the Word of God.
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
Destruction=perdition.
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
He is not that far down the road.
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
(KJV)
In the twinkling of an eye we are changed. I Cor.
Phil 4:4-23
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoicing is important. You have everything in the world to be happy about.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Don't go overboard in anything.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Don't be anxious for nothing. Talk to God. Let Him know what you need. Don't worry about it. Claim the promises of God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Passeth: Huperecho
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Don't worry He will be with you bringing you above the storm of these end times. He will guide you and show you the way. Believe the Word. Hang onto it.
THE END
