Over the last year or so, I have been having some problems with a co-worker of mine who happens to be a devout atheist. We were friends back a few years
ago, until she realized the extent of my Christian faith. One day, she asked me if I was happy for her and her live-in-lover, who she has been living with for
the last three years. I blantantly told her no I wasn't and then gave her the low down on what the Bible says about the differences in Godly marriage and
perversion. Needless to say, she became incredibly insulted by what I said and ended her friendship with me. Hey if the Words of God insult someone, then they
need to be insulted. I know she has always been interested in me, almost to the point of obsession and she still reads my mail in my work mail slot regularly,
I have been informed, when I am not there. So I decided to place a little story in my work mail slot, which I knew she would read. Seems that after she read my
story, I was informed by another staff member, that she broke into tears and has since ended her relationship. This is the story I placed in my mail slot:
A young man and woman had just met one another. Enamoured by their immediate attraction for one another, they lay on the ground together and began to have
sexual intercourse. As they rolled to their sides, they rolled right into a deep pit and realized they couldn't get out.
A religious fundamentalist came along and looking into the pit said, "You deserve to remain in that pit." And then she left. A psychologist came along and said, "Accept your pit. That way you'll be happy." And then he left. An apostate liberal came along and said, "Your pit is God's beautiful gift to you." And then he left. A gay activist came along and said, "Fight for your right to stay in the pit." And then she left. A researcher came along and said, "Discrimination against those in pits is illegal." And then he left. A charismatic came along and said, "Just confess that you not in that pit." And then he left. A few rich professionals came by and said, "We don't associate with pit dwellers." And then they left. The man and woman's mothers' came along and said, "It's your fathers' fault you're in that pit." And then they left. Their fathers' came along and said, "It's your mothers' fault you're in that pit." And then they left. Many of their friends came along and said, "It's all our fault you're in that pit." And then they left. Then Jesus came along, and seeing the man and woman loved them and had compassion on them, and reaching into the pit, put his arms around them and pulled them both out.
The man and woman replied to Jesus, "We didn't ask you to take us out of the pit. Why did you?" Jesus replied, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. Without me, you had no way out of that pit, for I am the way. Have you not read", Jesus replied, "that from out of the mind come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, lies and slander. These are the things that defile a person. When you began to have unlawful intercourse, the result was you ended up in a pit with no way out and no one would help you but me." "Sorry Jesus", the couple replied, "you are wrong. We are in love and we were expressing our love for one another." "If you were in love together", Jesus said, "you would have married one another before sex ever happened. Have you not read that in the beginning God created them both man and woman. And it is for this reason that a man must leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh. Why do you think I created marriage?" The couple looked at one another and immediately jumped back into the pit. "No we haven't read. Get lost Jesus", they said. So Jesus left.
Just over two days later Jesus returned to the pit. Seeing the couple and having compassion on them, he loved them and again helped them out of the pit. Then Jesus said, "God did not send His only Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save it. Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idoloters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor theives, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. For you see, I am creating a new heaven and a new earth, and the previous one shall not be remembered or come to mind."
The man and woman again looked at one another and jumped back into the pit. Jesus said to them, "There is no forgiveness without repentence."
It's not that I gave you a second chance when I returned here two days later. You never had a chance to begin with. No one else even lifted a finger to
help you. I told you I was the only way and you rejected it. I created marriage for both of you to honour me and instead you dishonoured me by having unlawful
sexual intercourse and perverted the love I created. You rejected my compassion and my love and you refused to ask for forgiveness. Unrighteous people like you
have no shame when you should both be ashamed of your evil deed. I am the LORD. I am your God and there is no other." Jesus frowned on them and then
destroyed them, with a terrible destruction. In fact, there was not a trace of them to be found anywhere.
Jesus left that place and walked towards another pit where another man and woman were. Seeing them in the pit and having compassion on them, he loved them and
pulled them out. They were grateful to Jesus and said, "We did wrong. We should have married and honoured you. No one else even tried to help us. We will
not do that again. Please forgive us!" Jesus replied, "You are forgiven. Please join me in my kingdom for I have prepared a place for both of
you." And the man and woman walked with Jesus towards the West, into the sunset.
Psalm 147:5, Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
